Traditional metal braces are the most common form of braces treatment for children and teenagers, but may also be utilized by adults as well. However, most adults prefer Invisalign® treatment.

Traditional braces are made up of metal brackets that are carefully placed onto the enamel of each tooth using a strong adhesive. Each bracket is connected to a metal wire that runs across your teeth giving pressure that gradually works to straighten your teeth. Depending on your case, our South Bay orthodontists may also use elastics for added pressure.

Traditional braces are a popular option because they are the most cost-effective, while still also being very effective in straightening teeth and aligning the jaw to correct other common orthodontic problems such as overbite, underbite, and crossbite.

We Offer Many Types Of Braces

For those concerned with their appearance as they work towards straightening teeth, either ceramic braces or Invisalign® should be considered. Metal braces are generally not an appealing option for many, but the individual brackets can be customized with different colors for added appeal.

Ceramic braces are a great option as they feature composite materials (i.e. ceramic) to match the shade of your teeth. This helps conceal your braces to others.

Braces Maintenance

Traditional braces, whether metal or ceramic, must be maintained properly in order to see the results you desire. This requires extra effort on your part at home using specialized tools to clear any food particles that may become stuck within the wires and brackets. Our orthodontists will go over this information in further detail after your braces have been properly set.
