What We Do

Our dental practice aims at improving the oral health of our clients. We do this by conducting an oral exam to look for problems and prevent them from occurring. We examine your gums and teeth, going a step further to take a digital x-ray. The x-ray reveals important details about the state of your teeth, which may be easy to miss by just looking at the teeth.

We also provide cosmetic services to enhance the look of your teeth by correcting misalignment, underbite, overbite, crossbite, fillings for cavities, composite bonding, veneers, teeth whitening, and implants. We correct the imperfections in your teeth so that you can smile broader and brighter with lots of confidence.

We also give you advice on how to care for your teeth through brushing, flossing, diet, and regular checkups. If we have performed any dental procedure on your teeth, we will advise you on the best care practices, and schedule a future appointment where necessary.

How We Help

Our dentists are aware of the unique challenge each dental problem presents. We examine each case thoroughly and individually to make sure we come up with the best solution that is satisfactory to you. We, therefore, help you by listening to your concerns, investigating the problem, or potential condition, and performing a diagnosis. We then provide you with restorative and cosmetic care for you and your family needs.

Washington Dental Services

We have designed the services we offer at Washington Dental, Palos Verde to restore the functionality and aesthetics of your teeth. We also relieve pain and bleeding with our emergency services. We serve both children and adults, making us your one-stop dentist for all your family's dental care needs. Since we use highly advanced and some of the latest dental technologies, we offer you a range of services you will hardly find elsewhere. Here are some of our services.

Free Dental Exams

We offer a no-cost, no-obligation free exam! As a new customer, our exciting free package not only saves you money – it allows you to keep track of what is happening inside your mouth. Getting regular exams, at least every 4-6 months, will allow us to detect problems and assess the health of your gums. We also check for oral cancer to help us catch it soon before it spreads. After that, we provide you with skills in oral health. At the end of the free exam, we will have provided you with the relevant information to help you make an informed decision on the kind of care you need.

Root Canal

When we discover that your tooth is decayed, inflamed, or has an infection inside the pulp tissue, we may suggest a root canal. During the operation, we will remove the pulp tissue, clean up the interior, and reshape it. We then fill up the space and restore the crown on your teeth. A root canal operation will protect your tooth from further damage, the need for extraction and restore it to its full functionality. We incorporate modern laser technology for the root canal to reduce the pain and discomfort of the procedure.

Teeth Whitening

The color of your teeth fades and dulls over time, from exposure to many elements. We bleach and whiten your teeth to restore them to a whiter shade, to ensure you are confident in your smile. Depending on how dull your teeth are, the process will take one or several visits to achieve the shade you desire. We will examine your teeth to check for cracks, decay, and other conditions that may cause irritation when present. After the procedure, we will provide you with maintenance guidelines to keep your teeth whiter for longer.

Additional Services and Frequently Asked Questions

Invisalign

Invisalign is an invisible type of braces used to align your teeth. They are usually more comfortable and discrete compared to traditional braces.

If you feel your teeth need a little straightening, you can visit our Palos Verdes offices for an evaluation. We will examine you to determine whether Invisalign will correct your teeth movements.

We will then fit you with a customized aligner, which we will replace every few weeks until your teeth achieve the desired alignment.

You can remove the Invisalign during mealtime and when brushing. In some cases, you may experience slight discomfort when you get a new aligner. However, if you experience gum irritation, contact us as soon as possible. You can use painkillers to relieve the pain or suck on ice to numb your mouth.

Is Invisalign The Best Option for Me?

Invisalign is one of the best orthodontic options for teens and adults who want to straighten their teeth, without wearing braces. While Invisalign is ideal for both teens and adults, it cannot be used for children whose permanent teeth have not erupted. Invisalign is ideal for conditions such as:

  • Crooked teeth
  • Overbite
  • Underbite
  • Crossbite
  • Open bite
  • Gaps in teeth, and
  • Crowded teeth

However, in some cases, the individual shape and arrangement of teeth could necessitate the use of braces. Invisalign is less effective for correcting:

  • Teeth which are short, round, pegged or have severe tips, as they do not fit smoothly into the aligner
  • Overcrowded teeth that require much attention to align them
  • Teeth with large gaps between them
  • Teeth that require a lot of midline movement to align
  • Teeth with dental bridges, porcelain veneers or crowns
  • Teeth that allow extraction before or during Invisalign treatment

At Washington Dental, we examine your teeth to determine whether you are an ideal patient for Invisalign. If you do not qualify, we will provide you with alternatives.

Orthodontic Retainers

Orthodontic retainers keep your teeth straight and in position after the removal of braces. You will either need plastic or wire retainers depending on the progress your teeth made.

Once we remove your braces, we will give you retainers and instructions on when and for how long you should wear them. Regular check-ups will determine whether you still need retainers.

In the beginning, you will need to wear your retainers for longer. The frequency will reduce over time. You will also need to have them replaced if they do not fit well, wear out, or become damaged. Our dentists will also advise you on the best way to care and maintain your retainers.

Family Dentistry

At Washington Dental, we value the oral health, trust, and happiness of your family. We offer personalized care to all your family members by conducting dental exams, check-ups, cleanings, dental x-rays, and advice on what to do in case we notice an issue that requires prevention or treatment.

You can bring in your kids as early as one year to ensure that their teeth and gums are developing properly. Regular checkups for your children will give us time to prevent and catch problems such as tooth decay earlier.

Bring your child along the next time you visit so that they can learn the importance of developing a good oral hygiene culture early.

Tooth Extraction

Tooth extraction is the process of removing teeth from your mouth. We can recommend an extraction if the tooth structure suffers non-restorable, the tooth is mispositioned or nonfunctional or has become mobile to periodontal diseases.

Before the extraction, we will discuss your medical history, including past extraction and any medication you are currently taking. If you have had any problems with past extractions, we will take note to help you control or avoid similar problems. We will also take you through what happens during a tooth extraction to keep you at ease.

We will first numb the area around the tooth then expand the socket. Once the tooth is free from the ligaments, it will slide out easily.

We also perform emergency tooth extraction where need be.

Dental Implants

Losing or breaking a tooth could expose you to secondary effects such as bone loss in the jaw. To protect your jaw, we implant an artificial titanium tooth into the bone. Titanium implants usually bond with the jawbone and can last a lifetime.

Dental implants come with some risks such as pain or injury to the neighboring teeth and blood vessels. To reduce the damage caused by dental implants, we use the latest technology, including 3D imaging. The advanced technology also helps us reduce surgery time and pain during the operation.

In most cases, you will have recovered fully between 12 weeks and nine months depending on the health and strength of your gum, and the diet and care you give to your teeth.

Why Do I Need Regular Dental Exams?

At Washington Dental, we encourage you to have dental exams every 4-6 months, or more. Regular check-ups will enable us to detect problems early to prevent costlier treatment, tooth loss, and infection of the gums and jaw. Some problems are not visible to the naked eye such as minor cavities and fractures; therefore, need a check-up with your dentist. You can call us for a dental exam if you experience any of the following symptoms:

  • Tooth sensitivity
  • Mouth sores
  • Broken teeth
  • Bad breath or taste in your mouth
  • Jaw pain
  • Bleeding gums

Oral Cancer Screening

During your regular checkup, we will examine your mouth to check for symptoms of oral cancer. We advise you to get regular screening for oral cancer if you smoke, drink a lot of alcohol or you spend much time in the sun.

When screening, we will check the inside and outside of your lips, your gums, tongue, the insides of your cheeks, the roof of your mouth, and the back of your throat. These checks involve checking your mouth for lumps and spots to detect any unusual lumps or symptoms. Early detection of oral cancer gives you more treatment options.

You can also visit us to check for oral cancer if you experience any of the following symptoms

  • Unexplained oral bleeding
  • Sores on the neck, mouth, and face that bleed easily
  • Sores that do not heal within two weeks
  • Chronic sore throat
  • A change in the way your teeth fit together
  • A feeling of having something stuck at the back of your throat
  • Pain and numbness in your face or mouth
  • White, red or speckled patches in the mouth
  • Swellings, crusts, rough spots and eroded areas in the mouth, gums, and lips

In some cases, we may collect tissue samples of the affected areas to check for cancer cells. After the laboratory results, we will advise you accordingly.

Are Dental X-Rays Safe?

Dental x-rays are generally safe to use. At Washington Dental, we use digital dental X-rays that have very little radiation. We mostly use dental x-rays for:

  • New patients to determine the state of their oral health
  • Children as their gums are constantly changing and they are more susceptible to tooth decay and cavities
  • If the regular exam shows there might be a problem with your teeth or gum

You need to inform us if you are pregnant to protect you and your fetus from exposure to radiation. However, we also take extra care to minimize the amount of radiation to which our staff and clients may be exposed to during procedures.
